According to reports Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys has decided to fast cheese this week in preparation for the Green Bay Packers.

Tony Romo has an unusual way of preparing this week for the Divisional Round of the playoffs as his Dallas Cowboys head up north to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Tony, who grew up in Wisconsin in the heart of Packer country even though he was closer to Chicago than he was Green Bay, knows just how serious that Packer fans take this game.

With the NFC Championship game hanging in the balance Tony and the Cowboys will be ready. While it must be pretty neat to play a game of this magnitude on the field that you grew up so close to, Romo says he is looking forward to it.

“It’s going to be fun,’’ Romo said. “It’s going to be a tough game.

Romo went on to say, “They’re outstanding. They’re going to be as good as we’ve gone against offensively and they’re playing really good defensive football, too. It’s going to be a great challenge.”

“I do know that this is the kind of game you want to be playing. We have the kind of football team where we’re very confident we have a chance to go up there and play a good game.’’ Romo and the Cowboys will have to be confident and on their game because his assessment of the Packers is correct and Aaron Rodgers and company have more post-season experience than the Cowboys who have been absent from the post-season for over 5 long years.”

Romo probably got this idea from his first head coach Bill Parcells. Parcells always told his players to not eat the cheese before a game like this, which was his way of saying don’t buy into the hype. So in other words don’t drink the Packers kool-aid and bring your best game. So Tony Romo is not eating the cheese this week and hopefully that will help him play his best football this week, because the Cowboys will need the entire team to bring their absolute best.

When Romo was asked if he could at least nibble on some cheese and admit that this game is at least a little bit special being only 150 miles from his childhood home Romo could only smile and say, “It will be special playing in the second round of the playoffs,’’ Romo said. “Anybody would be great.”

Sounds to me like he might have had a cheeseburger for lunch today followed up with a piece of cheesecake. This will be a special game for us all, with one of the highest over/unders of the weekend this game should serve to be a real pleasure to watch. Hopefully when Romo takes the field he won’t have any cheese on his fingers either.
