4. Cowboys can ride DeMarco Murray to victory
All season long, the Cowboys have ridden running back DeMarco Murray like a horse. Or maybe more accurately like a middle-aged donkey riding through the heat of the desert. It has worked, and the once-fragile Murray has held up remarkably well (one more reason to suspect Dallas is a team of destiny).
Murray carried the ball 392 times and caught 57 passes in the regular season. That’s good for 449 touches. One would be rational to think he’ll break down at some point, except it is not as if he’s getting hit all that hard.
Because Dallas’ offensive line is so good, especially in the running game, Murray’s 450 touches have been relatively low-maintenance touches. There haven’t been a ton of instances where Murray has had to run over defenders or carry them on his back.
Either way, Green Bay comes in 20th against the run, giving up 4.3 yards per rush against them. Considering the likelihood of difficult throwing conditions, the need to keep Aaron Rodgers off the field and the aforementioned ability to run effectively, it seems likely that Dallas will commit to the run on Sunday.
And they will likely be effective when they do.
