The most exciting part of dynasty leagues are the rookie drafts. To have a solid rookie draft, you must do a lot of studying and have a good understanding of the prospects that are coming out for the draft every year. I start studying next year’s rookies around September, and really cram as much knowledge as I can from February until it’s time to draft. I will do a write up of every player that I study and give you my thoughts on that player. Some players will get multiple write ups, because things about them will change from now untill the combine and NFL Draft.

Today I’m going to analyze Kevin White, wide receiver from the University of West Virginia. White is a big receiver standing at 6’3 210 lbs. He is strong at the line of scrimmage and is very good at beating the defender during press coverage. White has very good hands and will catch almost every pass that comes his way. He has great ball skills and he will catch the ball at it’s highest point while being contested by a defensive back. White has the ability to out jump defenders and make spectacular grabs in the endzone.

White needs to become a better route runner if he wants to get separation in the NFL. White isn’t a horrible route runner, but he will round out some of his routes. What I like about White’s route running is that he’s good at faking out defensive backs before he makes his cuts on his slants and posts. White lacks explosion off the line of scrimmage and isn’t a major threat after the catch. He’s not a speedster, but he makes that up with his leaping ability and his ball skills.

The one thing that stands out about Kevin White that raises my eyebrows is his college production. He only has one productive season, and that was this year. This year (2014) He caught 109 passess for 1447 yards and 10 TDS, which is a very good season. In 2013 he had 35 receptions for 507 yards and 5 TDS. In 2013, White spent most of the season learning the offense because he transferred to WVU from Lackawanna College in January of 2013. Players with only one year of college production are not the safest prospects because they have limited experience and are behind on some of the fundamentals compared to players with multiple years of production.

I like White, and I think he will be a late 1st to a mid 2nd round pick in the NFL Draft. In rookie drafts, I can see him going 1.5 or later. He is going to be a player to monitor during the combine because if he runs really well, his value will skyrocket. If White is drafted to the right team he could be a great prospect for your dynasty team.
