One NAHL team, the Johnstown Tomahawks, show just how unusual and strange promotions can get while benefiting those in need.

Sports teams are always looking for ways to draw fans into their stadiums. One way is through promotions that give the fans an extra benefit and a good memory to remember when they attend. However, one North American Hockey League (NAHL) team, the Johnstown Tomahawks, does not appear to have a grasp on what a good promotional event is.

There have been hat and teddy bear tosses, but I have never heard of an “Undies Sunday” event that allow fans to throw underwear on the ice. This tweet from the Tomahawks just screams bad news from the beginning. Why on Earth would a fan want to attend a game to throw underwear on the ice? Why would a player want to get hit by dirty, used undies for that matter.

The event itself is not appeasing and shouldn’t cause for a spike in attendance.

Luckily the team explained the promotion further and the where all the undies would go.

The new, unused underwear will be sent to needy families and will benefit the Children’s Tumor Foundation. This promotion is somewhat strange, but it’s very creative. No one else is doing “Undies Sunday” events and has a good cause.

With a proper explanation like they provided, the Tomahawks can expect to see the undies fly onto the ice at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena when they score their first goal against the Springfield Jr. Blues.

Fans might feel weird throwing new undies on the ice, but it is for a great cause. In the name of charity and helping those less fortunate, fans can make sure they have one key necessity, clean underwear. Nothing is worse than having to wear dirty, old undies that haven’t been cleaned in ages.

The Tomahawks may have found the next, big promotion to go viral across the various hockey leagues.

At some point, the teddy bear toss and throwing hats on the ice for hat-tricks made their debut before becoming popular throughout hockey. Kudos to Tomahawks to think outside the box on coming up with a new promotion.

It may come off as weird and an awful promotion at first glance, but it’s seems to be a great idea in the end. Fans get to throw things to celebrate the team’s first goal, and those who are less fortunate benefit.
