Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy had some NSFW defensive instructions for his players before the final play of the team’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.

After Brandon Jennings’ go ahead layup with .1 seconds left, the only way the Detroit Pistons could lose to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday was if they allowed a tip-in at the basket.

So, Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy implemented the best possible defensive strategy for such a situation: the “form a f***ing wall” defense.

Take a listen to Van Gundy talking to his players during the timeout before the Spurs’ final play.

This is just perfect. Not only is it actually the right way to defend the last-second tip in — just having your players stand right next to the basket — it’s awesome that Van Gundy is instructing his defense in these terms.

But Van Gundy is one of the most colorful coaches in the league, so it doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

Plus, it worked.

The Spurs didn’t get a shot off and Detroit won a game, its sixth victory in a row since releasing forward Josh Smith.

Detroit is now 11-23 and, incredibly, just 3.5 games behind the Miami Heat for the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference.
