Pedro Martinez wants Jheri Curl on MLB Hall of Fame Plaque
By Bryce Olin
Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez wants his Jheri curl on his Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Plaque, according to TMZ Sports
Pedro Martinez joined Randy Johnson, Craig Biggio and John Smoltz as the 2015 inductees of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.
Martinez was one of the most dominant pitchers of his era, but Martinez will always be remembered for three things outside of his baseball career: throwing down Don Zimmer, calling New York his “Daddy,” and, of course, Pedro’s sweet, sweet Jheri curl.
After Martinez was voted into the MLB Hall of Fame, TMZ asked Martinez if his famous Jheri curl will be on his plaque.
Pedro sure hopes so!
In the video, Martinez gets a little too excited when asked about his signature hair style, but then collects himself.
“It was great. It was amazing. That’s how people saw my face all the time. I look at it and I laugh,” Pedro said.

Kudos to TMZ Sports for asking the tough questions. At Roger Goodell’s domestic violence press conference, it was a TMZ reporter that dropped the big bomb about how easy it was to get the second NFL tape.
Then, when faced the possibility of asking Martinez with any question about his baseball career, the TMZ reporter goes with the Jheri curl question. Well done, TMZ.
When being elected to the MLB Hall of Fame, players who played for multiple teams get to choose which hat they want to be wearing in their plaque. I don’t see why players with multiple hair styles in their career don’t get to choose what hair style is featured in their plaque. It is THEIR plaque, after all.
Plus, Martinez was rocking the Jheri curl during his most successful seasons, including his year for the record books, the 1999 season.
In that 1999 season, Martinez won 23 games, struck out 313 batters, and won the American League Cy Young Award.
Martinez finished his career with three Cy Young Awards (1997, 1999, 2000), 219 wins, an incredible 3,154 strikeouts.
Surprisingly, Martinez might not have even had the best hair in the 2015 Hall of Fame class, depending on what hair style you prefer. Randy “Big Unit” Johnson was also rocking one of the signature cuts at the time, the mullet.
Personally, I’m more of a Jheri curl fan, but I don’t know if anyone embraced the “Long hair, don’t care” mantra like Johnson did during his time in the majors.
If Johnson gets to rock his mullet in his MLB Hall of Fame plaque, then, by all means, Martinez should get to rock the almighty Jheri curl.
