Wild head coach Mike Yeo flipped out on his team during practice with a profanity-laced rant.

Mike Yeo let his team know exactly how he felt about his team’s recent performance. It wasn’t a feel-good moment.

The Minnesota Wild are currently sitting on a 18-15-5 record for 41 points. That is good for just 11th in the Western Conference and puts them 6 points out of the final wild card spot, although they do have a couple games in hand over the teams directly above them.

While they are still very much in the playoff race, they have lost 8 of their last 10 and trending in the wrong direction. Head coach Mike Yeo understands the significance of nipping bad habits in the bud and stopping the slump as soon as possible. However, he doesn’t believe his players are understanding the significance.

During yesterday’s practice, Yeo halted practice because he didn’t like the way his players were practicing and urged them to get their heads on straight and pick it up. After the players seemed to fail to get the initial message, Yeo stopped practice again and called everyone over. This time, he was much less calm.

It’s like when you’re mom or dad catches you playing video games after they told you to do your homework and flip out on you.

Mike Yeo slams his stick on the ice and goes on a profanity-laced tirade expressing exactly how he felt about his team. Saying that they came out basically practicing like crap and didn’t like the attitude around the players.

It does look like the players have a sulking attitude and are not practicing with much effort possibly due to the team’s recent losing ways. Maybe they’re feeling sorry for themselves or pointing the finger and blaming other people.

Yeo tries to beat it into their heads that that is “loser mentality” and to knock it off. He continues asking “you don’t think we need practice? You think we’re playing so well we don’t need practice? Where are we in the standings?”

I know! I know! 11th! Oh, that was rhetorical. Sorry, Mike.

Which should be very disappointing for a Wild team that made it to the second round of the playoffs last season and nearly making it to the Conference Final. Obviously, there are big expectations for this year’s team, and Mike Yeo knows it. I’m sure he has great expectations himself.

It goes to show that this kind of thing still happens even in the NHL. Even professionals need to be yelled at and woken up a bit.
