Cowboys’ Dez Bryant fined for taunting during playoff game against Lions

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was fined for taunting during the third quarter of their win over the Detroit Lions.

The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Detroit Lions in rather controversial fashion over the past weekend to advance from the Wild Card round of the playoffs to the Divisional Round. At the center of the controversy was a defensive pass interference flag thrown against the Cowboys that was picked up and negated rather inexplicably.

Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant even ran onto the field without his helmet to protest a call. Bryant escaped punishment during the game and has since been fined by the league, and rather surprisingly not for that.

Still rather shocking that Bryant escaped any kind of repercussions for running out onto the field without a helmet. Bryant was flagged for taunting during the game.

In the grand scheme of things for Bryant, $8,268 isn’t a whole lot of money. Bryant has gone out to meet fans at stores for the release of video game consoles and purchased them for fans. He probably spent just as much money buying people Playstation 4s.

Of course Bryant is in a contract year and due for a huge pay day. If the Cowboys and Bryant can’t work out a deal he’ll likely be franchised tag and get a huge single-year contract before working out a long-term deal. At that point this fine will really seem like a small drop in the bucket.
