Oregon WR Darren Carrington suspended for national title game vs Ohio State
By Jack Crosby
The Oregon Ducks will be without one of their biggest offensive weapons in the national title game vs Ohio State with the loss of Darren Carrington.
The Oregon Ducks got some news that they did not need on Friday, just three days before the College Football Playoff National Championship vs Oregon, as maybe their top wide receiver target Darren Carrington has been suspended for the game and is not in Dallas with the team.
In the win over Florida State in the Rose Bowl, Carrington was arguably the Ducks’ biggest x-factor, catching seven balls for 165 yards with three scores as Oregon rolled over the defending national champion Seminoles, 59-20. On the season, Carrington notched 37 catches for 704 yards and four touchdowns.
Given the way that he played against the Seminoles on the biggest stage, this is without question a huge loss for Oregon as they seek their first ever national title on Monday night. Now as far as why Carrington is being punished, the reports on that are he failed a drug test.
Already without speedster Devon Allen, who was injured early in the win over Florida State, the Ducks offense will be very short-handed against a powerful Ohio State defense on Monday night in Dallas.
