Fantasy Basketball: Should I Buy Low On Ricky Rubio?

facebooktwitterreddit

We are getting real close to a return for Ricky Rubio. So the question is what should we do with Ricky Rubio? Should we buy low on him and hope he is set up for a nice return? Should we sell him if we own him thinking that this is just another lost season for the Timberwolves? We do not have much of a sample size to gauge what he will do this season as he only played four games before suffering an injury.

I will give you my gut instinct and then we will look at some information and see what we can learn from Ricky Rubio. My instinct says that this could be one of his best seasons that he has ever had as a professional. Without Kevin Love this year, the Timberwolves are going to need more scoring help and will need Rubio to step up and help out.

We have seen some of the Timberwolves’ young players really take a leap the past few weeks. Andrew Wiggins, Shabazz Muhammad and Gorgui Dieng among others have really stepped it up as of late for the Timberwolves. I would expect the addition of Ricky Rubio to really help those young guys out even more. Rubio should be able to improve in multiple categories this year. I don’t know if he can improve his poor field goal percentages, but he should hopefully look to drive and get some closer shots this year.

I have never been a huge fan of Rubio or his game, but I could see shooting some offers out there and seeing if his owners are tired of him sitting on their benches for this long. By all means, if you find him on your waiver wire, then pick him ASAP. Even if you don’t like him. Pick him up and let him get the hype train rolling, then fire out some offers for something to improve your team.

The return of Rubio will render Mo Williams useless in standard leagues with the exception of a handcuff type of player, and make Zach LaVine droppable in almost all leagues. There is a slight chance that Mo will retain some value if he can get some minutes playing the off guard with Rubio in the lineup. He will likely need 30 minutes a night or more as a last option with all of the young players that Minnesota will throw on the floor.
