Washington Wizards are “not out of the picture” when it comes to Ray Allen and the team’s he would consider playing for during the reminder of the season and playoff run.

As teams make moves and trades to bolster their roster for a push during the second and final half of the season, and hopefully a deep playoff run, one free agent remains a huge attraction to teams, shooting guard Ray Allen. With the dismantling of the Miami Heat, fueled mainly by LeBron James returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Allen has stayed away from the league to way his options.

With the second half of the season approaching, if Allen is considering another NBA title run the time is now to start considering teams. Certainly James and the Cavaliers would be on Allen’s radar, but he reportedly is considering joining another former teammate in the Eastern Conference, the Washington Wizards and Paul Pierce.

According to insider J. Michael of CSN Washington, the Wizards are “not out of the picture” when it comes to Allen’s services.

“Until Allen says, ‘I’m retired’ or ‘No, thanks,’ the Wizards will continue to chase him,” Michael writes. “The reason: Even though they have shooters in Martell Webster and Rasual Butler coming off the bench, they’re natural small forwards. Allen is a natural to back up shooting guard Bradley Beal.”

Michael also says the Wizards have maintained “routine” contact with Allen. The Wizards don’t necessarily pop to mind when you think of NBA title contenders, but they’re sitting in fourth in the weak Eastern Conference at the moment. They’re also just three games out of first place in the East and could easily contend for the top seed and home court advantage in the back half of the season.

Still, do the Wizards look more attractive than joining LeBron in Cleveland with Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving? That is the decision Allen is going to have to make.
