Bill Simmons compares Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth to WWE announcers for praising the integrity of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell attended the Ravens-Patriots playoff game Saturday night, and as the telecast showed Goodell at one point,  Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth began talking about the Ray Rice case.

The league and Goodell were widely criticized for its handling of the Ray Rice case and many people believed that Goodell had access to the video before TMZ released it, as well as before the league handed Rice a two-game suspension to begin the 2014 season.

Well, ESPN’s Bill Simmons took major exception to all of this and he accused the two announcers of overselling the integrity of the NFL commissioner.

The NFL certainly will have some work to do in the coming years to repair an image that continues to be hurt by instances and issues like this one. I can understand Simmons’ frustration over the issue, but for a guy who was just suspended for three weeks in September of 2014 for his comments about Goodell, this could be a bit too soon for his employer to overlook his comments.

I suppose none of us would miss Simmons too badly if ESPN decided to suspend, or even get rid of him altogether. I sometimes enjoy his take on the NBA, but I am sure they would just find another loud mouth guy with a crazy opinion to spout off until they take actions on him.
