Chris Christie hanging out with Jerry Jones at the NFC Wild Card Game became headline news, and not in the way that is positive to any Christie campaign.

There was a  point in time when Chris Christie was looking like the Republican candidate for President in 2016. Thanks to a bridge scandal and fading from the spotlight, those prospects aren’t as high as they once were. Add to that his latest headline grabbing move and you have yourself a candidate who is as polarizing as he’s ever been but also as relevant.

Chris Christie hanging out with Jerry Jones is hurting his credibility with the liberal crowd — but it’s not like there was much of an audience there anyways. The sect of fans he’s displeasing the most are NFC East fan bases located in Philadelphia, New York and Washington as well as his native New Jersey.

He’s the governor of New Jersey, yet is traveling the country as a Cowboys groupie — which may end up having some political gain in the future. In the present though, Christie is once again the punchline to easy jokes like the one run on the front page of The Trentonian on Friday.

Christie is an easy target thanks to his weight and his habit for having a political snafu here or there. HE’s long been a punchline for Saturday Night Live, and his bridge scandal from this past summer put him on late night talk show blast.

But even if he’s being made fun of, Christie is attaining the one thing essential to running for political office — popularity and relevancy. That’s all you need these days and even if you’re being dressed as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, at least the people are saying your name.

Christie will again be at Jerry Jones’ side as the Cowboys take on the Green Bay Packers this weekend, which means the governor could appear from everything as a cow to a block of cheese next week, even if he remains somewhat of a folk hero to fans back home in Dallas.
