Fantasy Basketball: Jeff Green traded to Memphis Grizzlies

facebooktwitterreddit

As the Boston Celtics look to acquire every pick possible over the next four years, they unload another asset in Jeff Green to the Memphis Grizzlies. Jeff Green will slate in as an immediate starter with the Grizzlies, but as of right now, it is hard to gauge just what kind of impact he will have with his new team.

The only thing that is certain about this trade is that Green is heading to Memphis. Reportedly, they are trying to add New Orleans to the mix. What other players could be included are unknown, but rest assured that if someone else is added, we here at FantasyCPR will have the fantasy repercussions covered from all angles!

Jeff Green has been a great scoring forward for the Celtics this year as he has 17.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals a game. Jeff will do just a little bit of everything for the Grizzlies, and has the ability to defend either forward position.

I really believe this change of scenery could do wonders for Green, as he is slightly down across the board from his career numbers with the exception of points scored. The 6’9 235 pounder out of Georgetown will be looked upon to help the Grizzlies take the next step in the playoffs this year and bolster the starting lineup of Mike Conley, Tony Allen, Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol.

When you have a situation like this, my theory is to make it work for you in whatever situation that you can. We will address it like this: With an 83.1% ownership rate in ESPN.com standard leagues I would add Jeff Green across any formats where he might be available. He is at a minimum worth a flier with the possibility that he could really benefit from this move.

If you currently own Jeff Green and you think that he will not be able to sustain his current numbers, which is a possibility as he takes time to learn his new system and gain some chemistry with his new team, you could look to unload him and sell him off of the hype of going to a winning team.

My thoughts are that I would want to unload him as he is going from a team where he was a top two offensive option to a team where he is probably a third option behind the duo of Randolph and Gasol. Green will be busy defending the perimeter, and could struggle at first. The good news is of course if you are a Jeff Green or a Grizzlies fan this very well could create a nice buy-low scenario. I would wait and let him play a week or two with his new team and watch his numbers plummet through his learning curve, then pounce with a low offer.
