Joe Flacco’s playoff success is why he got a mega-contract, but Saturday night in New England, he threw a pick in a playoff game for the first time in almost three years.

Joe Flacco was looking for Torrey Smith deep down the right side, but the ball sailed on him and was picked off by New England Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty.

The Pats couldn’t do anything with the possession and the teams ended the third quarter tied at 28-28.

But for the Baltimore Ravens’ playoff master at quarterback, the pick was kind of a big deal. It was his first interception in postseason play since the Ravens lost the AFC Championship to the Patriots in Foxborough on Jan. 12, 2012.

Since throwing an interception to Brandon Spikes in the fourth quarter of the 2011 AFC title game, Flacco threw 198 consecutive postseason passes without another, second-longest all-time behind Drew Brees’ string of 226 consecutive pick-free throws.

What the Ravens have done in the postseason—particularly on the road, is astounding. As a franchise, the Ravens are looking for their 11th postseason road win Saturday night, which would break the NFL record they currently share with the Green Bay Packers.

Of course, the Pack has been around since 1921 and the Ravens’ history began in 1996.

So, yeah.

Flacco has been at the help for eight of those road victories, including last week’s 30-17 AFC Wild Card Playoff win over the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field.
