Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor hurdles the Carolina Panthers line twice on consecutive field goals but neither counted.

The Seattle Seahawks were trying to prevent the Carolina Panthers from scoring late in the first half with a field goal in the final seconds, a score that could’ve swung a bit of momentum in the game. Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor hurdled the line to try and block the field goal and was inches away from getting to the football.

The kick was good but fortunately the kicking team was called for an offsides penalty and had to try again. That gave Chancellor the second opportunity that he needed to try and block the kick again.

On the second attempt Chancellor cleanly hurdles the line again and seems to block the kick.

Chancellor was called for running into the kicker and the Seahawks were penalized five yards. The Panthers would kick the field goal a third time and make it, and on that attempt Chancellor didn’t bother to try and hurdle the line.

The consensus seems to be that Chancellor didn’t actually block the ball, but rather Graham Gano shanked it. Which is why the penalty was called, at least according to officiating analyst Mike Pereira.
