Thomas Davis is a 10-year veteran who plays linebacker for the Carolina Panthers and in Saturday night’s playoff game he was wearing a very logo-appropriate eye shield.
In case Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis forgets what team he plays for, all he has to do is look in front of him for a clue.
The shield attached to his facemask has a Panthers logo on it.
Of course, Davis can’t see the logo—they have ways of doing that type of ornamentation in such a way that it’s see-through. Like those $4 sunglasses with Dale Earnhardt’s car number that you see at the convenience store.
Davis had another solid season for the Panthers, recording 100 tackles—the third straight year he’s reached that plateau—along with 2½ sacks, two forced fumbles and three passes defensed.
The outside linebacker from Georgia is now in his 10th season, all with the Panthers. He was Carolina’s 14th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.
Originally drafted as a safety, Davis was moved to linebacker as a rookie and has never looked back, starting every game but three in which he’s played since his second season in 2006.
As of early in the fourth quarter against the Seattle Seahawks Saturday, he had nine tackles and a sack. His season-high is 12 tackles, which he did in a Week 2 win over the Detroit Lions and again in a Week 11 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
