Colts used Seahawks’ blueprint to knock off Broncos

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis is claiming the Seattle Seahawks provided the ‘blueprint’ on how to take down the Denver Broncos.
The most shocking upset of the NFL playoffs thus far has been Andrew Luck’s Indianapolis Colts knocking off Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos. Many have already dubbed it as the “passing of the torch.”
There’s no doubt how serious a player Luck already is at this stage of his career, but what about that Indy defense?
Chuck Pagano’s defensive squad only relented a total of 288 yards against one of the better statistical offenses in the game this season. Manning only topped the 200 yard threshold because of one final garbage-time drive.
The Colts defense completely took away everything Denver likes to do.
Colts cornerback Vontae Davis told us today that it was no accident.
According to Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star, Davis claimed that it was the Seattle Seahawks victory in Super Bowl XLVIII which provided the key.
"“Seattle gave us the blueprint in the Super Bowl,” Davis said, alluding to the Seahawks’ dominant 43-8 pasting of Manning and Denver in last February’s Super Bowl. “What we did was similar to what Seattle did, as far as taking their receivers away.”"
Manning finished with only 211 yards on 21 of 46 passing. For every onlooker rooting for the team in orange, it became painfully obvious that for Manning to beat Indy’s defense he’d have to attack deep.
The Colts took away everything underneath and sniffed out those pesky wide-out screens run to death by Denver. Manning and Gase could not find a way to adjust and beat it. They tried, but Manning’s inaccuracies down-field were apparent.
Not only did V.Davis contribute in revealing the secret formula after the game, but he also helped out with recording seven-solo tackles on Sunday. It was his great tackling and setting the wide edges that put a stop to many of the failed wide-out screens attempted by the Broncos.
Perhaps Pagano is now dusting off the 2011 Super Bowl tape looking to recreate what the New York Giants did to the New England Patriots in that one.
