Denver Broncos general manager John Elway said that John Fox left because they couldn’t agree on how to get to the next level.

John Fox and the Denver Broncos mutually agreed to part ways on Monday, following their disappointing loss at home to the Indianapolis Colts in the Divisional round of the NFL Playoffs.

Denver saw Fox take them to four straight AFC West division titles, but he could never win a championship with them. He had a chance following last season, but the Seattle Seahawks jumped all over the Broncos and won by a final score of 43-8. Whether that blame falls on Fox’s shoulders or not, he still wasn’t able to get the job done.

Peyton Manning played through a torn right quad against the Colts, and that is part of what also hurt their offense.

That being said, Fox is now gone and looking for another coaching job elsewhere. The Broncos are going to be a very attractive landing spot for other coaching candidates. Fox is also a great coaching candidate for other jobs that are open across the league.

It is too bad that the two sides couldn’t work something out to make another go of it, but Elway and Fox weren’t even close to being on the same page from the sound of things.

Fox being on the free agent coaching market has changed up the game a bit, and teams like the Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons would make a lot of sense for him. Denver, on the other hand, has candidates like Dan Quinn, Adam Gase, and multiple other options.

There is a chance that Manning will decide to retire this offseason, which would start a brand new era of football in Denver. If that does end up happening, it is going to be intriguing to see what the Broncos do in order to remain competitive moving forward in the AFC West.
