He has a long road ahead of him. The Jets were 4-12 last season and have the 6th selection in the draft. They will be looking to build this team right back up. The Jets let go of Rex Ryan in the offseason and are looking to another defensive mind in Todd Bowles to pick up the pieces.
Bowles had a trip scheduled to go to Atlanta after the interview on Tuesday, but he will not need to head out there to meet with the Atlanta Falcons. The Jets have felt that this was their guy and they made sure to lock him up.
Bowles has been the defensive coordinator in Arizona for the last couple of seasons and has done an amazing job of leading that defense. He has led the defense to a top 10 ranking in 2013 and had that team ranked number 2 against the rush.
Last season, the Cardinals suffered a lot of key injuries to their key players, but the team was still able to march into the playoffs despite the injuries. The defense was one of the main reasons for their ascension into the playoffs, since the Cardinals lacked a run game and a decent quarterback for most of the season.
Bowles will inherit the league’s 3rd best rushing team, but 32nd ranked passing team. The Jets were ranked 6th in defense last season based on how many yards they gave up, but were ranked 24th based on how many points they gave up.
Now Todd will be looking to hire his coordinators and then can put his focus on his roster.
