The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly being put up for sale by Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov.
Mikhail Prokhorov purchased the Brooklyn Nets back in 2010 for $223 million, and is already looking to get out of ownership just over four years later. The Nets haven’t had much success under him, and they have a lot of work to do before they become legitimate contenders again.

Last season, the Nets pulled off a major trade for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out and they ended up getting knocked out by the Miami Heat in the playoffs.

This season, the Nets are currently sitting at 16-22 and have been extremely disappointing. There is quite a bit of talent on the roster, but they just can’t seem to put everything together and make a run at the playoffs. Deron Williams and Brook Lopez have been more or less walking injuries over the past couple of seasons, but have played solid roles this year.
That being said, the Nets have still failed to put things together and they are about to go into a rebuilding process. Prokhorov isn’t interested in sticking around through the rebuild, and is looking to bolt while he still can.
It will be very intriguing to see who ends up buying the team from Prokhorov. Whoever decides to buy the team isn’t going to get a cheap price on it.
There is plenty of talent in Brooklyn to make a trade or two and bring in young talent, or they could choose to simply re-tool and make another run with the current core. Either way, the Nets can make some moves and get themselves back on track fairly quickly.
