A British newspaper mistook Dikembe Mutombo for New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony in one of their headlines.

The Sun, a British newspaper, mistook former NBA star Dikembe Mutombo for current New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony in one of their headlines on Wednesday.

Mutombo was pictured with Prince Harry but, well…

It isn’t an easy mistake to make for anyone that watches the game of basketball, and it is an extremely embarrassing mistake for the paper. There are quite a few differences between Anthony and Mutombo, and it just doesn’t seem possible that a mistake that bad could be made.

But, there are a lot of Americans that disrespect their beloved game of football (soccer), so this might make everything even.

That being said, it was made and it has provided all of us NBA fans with some laughter.

Anthony is six inches shorter than Mutombo, which makes the headline a bit more laughable. Prince Harry is 6’2″ himself, which wouldn’t make Anthony “tower” above him the way that Mutombo does at 7’2″.

There was an obvious lapse in fact checking on this story, and someone may be looking for a new job in the near future. This is the biggest no-no at a newspaper, and it has been spread out to the world very quickly. The Sun will never live this blunder down, and all of us can enjoy it at their expense.
