Report: San Francisco 49ers to hire Jim Tomsula as next head coach
By Jack Crosby
Jim Tomsula appears to be the man that will lead the San Francisco 49ers.
In somewhat of a stunning move on Wednesday, the San Francisco 49ers have apparently found their next head coach, although it’s not who we maybe all thought it would be. The team has decided to stay within and promote assistant Jim Tomsula, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
As early as Wednesday afternoon there were a lot of signs pointing towards the 49ers hiring Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase, but it appears they’ve decided to stay in house and hand the reins over to their defensive line coach, who actually has coached the 49ers before.
With one game remaining in the 2010 season, Tomsula took over for Mike Singletary for one game, a game in which they came away with a 38-7 win.
This organization is the only one that Tomsula has ever known, as opposed to a lot of other NFL head coaching candidates that have made their rounds about the league. He has also only held the position of defensive line coach, beginning in 2007 with Singletary and he stayed on staff when Jim Harbaugh came in.
Now, Jim Tomsula is in charge of everything.
