There was an obvious dislike for each other on the floor during the play, and it goes back longer than just that game. According to Garnett’s former teammate Brian Scalabrine, Garnett has hated Howard for years. It all seems to go back to a game in 2009 when Howard was bragging about his All-Star votes rather than showing respect to the game of basketball before the game when the captains met at half-court.
While quite a few people have seen an obvious disrespect for the game from Howard, Garnett shouldn’t have gone about his retaliation the way he did. Garnett is all about respect for the game, according to Scalabrine, but head-butting another player isn’t exactly showing respect either.
Take a listen to Scalabrine’s story about Garnett and Howard’s first incident:
Now, take a look at the little scuffle that occurred on Monday night with Garnett finishing the scuffle with a head-butt.
Needless to say, these two don’t like each other very much and Garnett made it clear that he wasn’t going to back down. Even in his old age, he is still a major trash talker and still has a bit of dirtiness left in him. Howard, on the other hand, needs to learn when to keep his mouth shut.
