The Minnesota Wild are sinking in the Western Conference and have acquired a top goal tender to try and right the ship before it’s too late.

After losing 12 of their last 14 games, it was clear that the Minnesota Wild needed to make a change in net as they were bleeding wins in a conference that is going to drown them out sooner rather than later. The Wild out hustle, out-shoot and outplay mostly every single team that they play, but their swiss cheese goaltending was less effective than those clay targets at the skills competition each year.

Needing desperately to fix the problem in goal, the Wild have gone out and made the trade everyone knew they needed but weren’t sure if they could pull off. While they didn’t acquire someone like Sergio Bobrovsky from the Blue Jackets or even a Martin Brodeur, Minnesota has filled their need for capable goal tending by acquiring Devan Dubnyk from the Arizona Coyotes.

According to Michael Russo from the Star Tribune, the trade will send a 2015 third round pick to Arizona in exchange for Dubnyk.

With Darcy Kemper struggling and Nikolas Backstroke pretty much done, the Wild need goaltending to save their season fro being a wash. Over the last two years, the Wild have taken leaps in the West and were poised to prove they had fully arrived this season but the lack of goaltending was holding them down.

Their season is still far from being saved, but the acquisition of Dubnyk at least gives them someone capable to throw in goal and help give the Wild offense the boost and support it’s been in dire need of for the last month or so.
