Alex Rodriguez apparently doesn’t want to give up that third baseman job

After serving his one-year suspension, Alex Rodriguez is set to return to the New York Yankees in 2015. Now with the recent signing of Chase Headley, it’s been widely assumed that Rodriguez will be switching positions upon his return, possibly to first base for a little work, with some designated hitting sandwiched in between.

Come on, you didn’t think A-Rod was going to give up his job that easily, right?

As we inch closer to players reporting for spring training, Steven Marcus of NewsDay is reporting that Rodriguez is very much adamant about keeping his position at that particular corner of the infield, no matter what the Yankees have with Headley.

Last December, the Yankees and Headley struck a four-year, near $50 million deal. That move right there all but put the writing on the wall that A-Rod would need to be making a move, as third base was reserved for Headley, who the Yankees acquired prior to the trade deadline from the San Diego Padres.

During his time in the second half with the Yankees, Headley batted .262 with six homers and was impressive with his glove at the hot corner.
