Ever since the Buckeyes upset Oregon in the National Championship, there has been a lot of talk over whether or not Cardale Jones should enter the NFL Draft this summer or return to Ohio State. Never before has this conversation materialized so quickly, but never before has the iron been so hot like it is for Jones.
In just three games he’s played to a level where people want him togo from third string Big Ten quarterback to the next Ben Roethlisberger. Either way, a decision from Jones on his future in the NFL — or lack thereof — is coming today.
That’s not rampant speculation either, as this announcement of an announcement comes straight from Cradle Jones himself.
There has been a lot made in the last two days about what Cradle Jones should do. Many believe he’s not ready for the NFL — including Jones himself — but almost everyone agrees that it’s better to be a paid backup in NFL than a volunteer player at Ohio State.
That’s what his all comes down to, as Cradle Jones will likely base this decision to turn pro or not to solely off of the financials of the situation. He has a family, wants to start earning for and supporting that family which means his best possible option is the NFL.
Unless Cardale Jones can get an unabashed assurance from Urban Meyer that he’s going to be the starter in 2015, there’s no reason to not go pro. Even if he’s assured a stating role for the Buckeyes, this might be the ceiling for the hype surrounding Jones, who has won three of the biggest games in Ohio State history without really making it look hard.
