The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly reached a deal to keep offensive play caller and passing game architect Scott Linehan.
The Dallas Cowboys continue to fortify their coaching staff by bringing the whole band back together for an extended run. The latest name to secure himself to the Cowboys sideline was Scott Linehan, who had a major role in the team’s offensive success this season.

After the team’s success in 2014, who can blame owner and GM Jerry Jones for wanting to keep everyone on board? With Bill Callahan at coordinator and Linehan calling the plays, the Cowboys had one of their best, most balanced offenses at least since the arrival of Tony Romo, if not since before then.
The Cowboys finished 7th in yards accrued and fifth in points per game in 2014, which propelled them to a 12-4 record, a division crown and a victory in the Wild Card round in the playoffs.
But there’s still work to do in Big D after the team fell short against the Green Bay Packers. Even more disconcerting, head coach Jason Garrett and his staff saw their contracts expire after that loss. Many speculated Linehan and defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli could draw some keen interest around the league for their work in Dallas.
While it appears Marinelli could still bolt town, there are no such expectations for Linehan, who is back on board with the ‘Boys.
Once Jason Garrett signed a five-year deal worth $30 million to return to Dallas, the decision was made easy for Scott Linehan. He’ll return to the band and try for an even better season next year.
While Linehan might have found jobs that offered more freedom or even more responsibility, it’s hard to imagine an offensive guru finding a better unit with which to work. Sometimes running an offense alongside another who’s either your equal or directly above you (Callahan) is a better situation than running a hapless offense on your own.
The Cowboys offense is anything but hapless.
The Cowboys offer one of the league’s best offensive lines, the league’s top rusher in 2014 and one of the league’s best quarterback-receiver duos. If it’s an offense you want to build, you could do a whole lot worse than that found in Dallas.
