The Denver Broncos are in the midst of unexpected offseason change, as they search for a new head coach and wonder if quarterback Peyton Manning will be returning for another year.
Manning isn’t the only uncertain return, however.
The guy known as “Pot Roast” isn’t so sure he’s going to be back either. Terrance Knighton told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Wednesday that he hasn’t gotten the feeling the Broncos are too interested in bringing him back.
If Knighton doesn’t return, the Broncos will be missing a significant part of their defense. He originally came to the Broncos with defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, after beginning his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now, Del Rio is gone, having accepted the head coaching position of the Oakland Raiders, and it’s possible Knighton might follow if he feels like the Broncos aren’t too interested in retaining his services.
Adding Knighton to an already solid Raiders defensive front might be an important first move from Del Rio.
Knighton has been with Del Rio in his entire NFL career.
Aside from Knighton and Manning, the Broncos will also be forced to decide on the futures of wide receiver Demaryius Thomas and tight end Julius Thomas. The two Thomas players are likely to be the Broncos’ biggest priorities, unless they have to find a quarterback too.
That understandably leaves Pot Roast wondering about his future with the team and it doesn’t seem too far-fetched that he might seriously consider following his defensive coordinator to the Raiders.
“Yeah definitely. You see changes every year. I hope to be here. We have to see how the business part plays out,” Knighton said to the Denver Post following the Broncos’ exit in the divisional round to the Colts.
