As the NBA trade deadline nears, talks are heating up and there are at least five trades that need to be made by February 19.

The NBA trade deadline is just over a month away (February 19). This season has brought a surprising amount of action well before the deadline.

First there was the relative blockbuster in which the Dallas Mavericks went all-in on the 2014-15 campaign by acquiring star point guard Rajon Rondo from Boston for Brandon Wright (most notably).

Then within the last week the Grizzlies, Celtics and Pelicans worked out a three-team deal which most notably netted Memphis Jeff Green and the Pelicans Quincy Pondexter.

Another blockbuster appears eminent at the time of this writing (the wee hours of the morning between Thursday, January 15 and Friday, January 16.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported late Thursday evening that there have been significant talks of a three-team deal between Brooklyn, Charlotte and Oklahoma City which would involve Brook Lopez, Lance Stephenson and Kendrick Perkins (as an expiring contract).

It should be noted that it is quite a bit more difficult to come up with trades that work, according to ESPN’s trade machine, than one might expect. Most of the trades that work according to NBA bylaws are rather lame.

Still there are a handful of potential gems for playoff teams which could be mutually beneficial for all parties involved. Here are the five trades that must be made before the February 19th trade deadline.
