David Blatt shoots down any sort of tension rumors between he and LeBron James.
Aside from the fact that the Cleveland Cavaliers are 20-20 here in the middle of January, much of the talk about the team lately has surrounded the fact that the relationship between LeBron James and head coach David Blatt might not be on the best of terms.
While LeBron James hasn’t really spoken much about how buddy-buddy the two might or might not be with one another, Blatt has.
In an interview with Adrian Wojnarowski and Yahoo, just one day after they got that 20th win with a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday night, the first-year NBA head coach explained that while the two might not be going out to hit the town together soon, their relationship is just fine.
“It is a process,” Blatt told Yahoo Sports. “It really has to come first from the professional side. Man to man, we’re OK. We don’t go out drinking together, but we’re fine man to man. But professionally, LeBron wants to win. And he wants from me, from any coach, a vehicle to help him win.
“Sometimes, it’s tougher. Sometimes, it’s less so. He’s one of the great players of all time. He’s been in the Finals four straight years and five times overall. He’s got his own opinions and he expresses them. At times, he can be stubborn. But what I know from him, what he wants from me, is a vehicle to help him win. And beyond that, nothing else is really important.”
Now will this do a lot to calm down the talks of a rift between the two? Probably not. Actually, as Charles Barkley explained on TNT last night, no one will probably be satisfied until James himself comes out and addresses the talk of the Cavs locker room being against Blatt. Barkley, and also Reggie Miller on the broadcasting table, called out LeBron for not being a good leader by ignoring the issue.
But even if LeBron comes out and shoots down the talk, will people be ultimately satisfied then?
