The New York Knicks are so bad this year that headline writers are having a field day coming up with creative ways to let their readers know just how bad this sad sack of a team is.

More from NBA

Phil Jackson was supposed to be the savior for the Knicks after he was named the team’s president almost exactly 10 months ago, but the Zen Master and the greatest NBA coach of all-time has found his first season back in the Big Apple has been anything but pleasant.

The Knicks have the worst record in the league with a 5-36 record, including a 16-game losing streak after the team fell to the Milwaukee Bucks in London.

Carmelo Anthony returned to the lineup after missing the previous six games but that wasn’t enough for the Knicks to snap their losing streak as their awful brand of basketball had no troubles traveling across the pond.

The New York Post had a little fun with their headline on Friday morning.

Pretty creative and awfully accurate to describe the state of the Knicks as Jackson has not been able to have the same type of impact in the front office as he did on the bench when he made winning NBA championships a habit with the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Jackson won 11 rings as a coach, surpassing the record held by Red Auerbach, and was a top reserve for Red Holtzman’s Knicks team that won the title in 1973. But his decision to one of his former players, Derek Fisher, has blown up in his face and Anthony’s decision to re-sign with the Knicks because he wanted to win looks like one of the more foolish decisions this century.

The Knicks have been saddled with a loser’s mentality that Jackson must first eliminate as the culture must change before the team will be able to snap the losing streak, string a few good games together and begin to make the crawl out of the cellar in the standings.

Maybe it will take a few years of successful drafting and signing a few marquee players in next summer’s free agent class like Rajon Rondo or Marc Gasol to get this team turned around and no longer be the laughing stock of the NBA.

However, the likelihood of the franchise’s first 60-loss season could scare away potential free agents so they are caught in lose-lose situation.

Losing helps get the No. 1 pick in the draft lottery and Jahlil Okafor but with every loss prospective free agents could be scared away from the lack of success the triangle offense is having and the losing culture permeating even further throughout the organization.

At least the Post will have some more fun creating fun headlines.
