Patrick Sharp helps 16-year old blind girl’s wish come true
Patrick Sharp helps 16-year old Christina’s wish come true of attending a Blackhawks game.
If you were granted one wish, what would you ask for?
I’m sure a lot of us would get greedy and ask for something materialistic, such as money, a new car, new clothes, etc. I’m not going to lie, I’d definitely be tempted. Then I see moments like what Patrick Sharp and the Chicago Blackhawks did for this young girl, and its a real humbling experience.
The Blackhawks recently launched a TV advertisement campaign called “What’s Your Goal?” When 16-year old Christina DeVries heard the ad, she immediately said that her goal was to attend a Blackhawks game.

The obstacle for Christina is that, among other health issues, she was born blind. So, attending a hockey game would be a bit difficult for Christina. Christina’s aunt started a donation page to help raise money to attend the Blackhawks game against the Winnipeg Jets on Dec. 23.
Before they could raise the money, the Blackhawks and Patrick Sharp got word of Christina’s story, and decided to help out.
They decided to surprise Christina by not telling her where she was going. She had no idea where she was until she was greeted by Patrick Sharp right down at ice level, welcoming her to the United Center and her first ever Chicago Blackhawks game. Sharp gave Christina her very own Patrick Sharp Blackhawks jersey and even brought her out on the ice so she could feel the ice surface.
Not only did she get the chance to meet Patrick Sharp personally and actually step on the ice, but she was able to watch some of the game in the broadcast booth with the announcers. The announcers even gave her a headset and asked her how she was enjoying her first Blackhawks game.
She replied, “I can’t even believe what is happening, it’s the best moment of my life.”
The Blackhawks ended up losing the game 5-1 to the Winnipeg Jets, but Christina didn’t seem to care. She finally got to live her dream of attending a Chicago Blackhawks game and even got the added bonus of meeting Patrick Sharp in person.
Christina summed up the experience as best as she could. “This is the best day of my life,” she exclaimed.
It was a very touching thing to see and should make us all remember that sometimes we can get a bit selfish about the things that we want, when there are people out there like Christina who’s only dream was to attend a hockey game.
