Christmas has passed but that doesn’t mean that the giving season is over and Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is proof of that as one simple act of kindness gave a family a memory they’ll never forget.
When he’s not dominating the opposition on the football field and preparing for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts, Gronkowski took up a side job with a local businessman to deliver a houseful worth of furniture to a single mother in the Boston area.
College Bound movers owner Edward Smith was part of the surprise as well as he was caught off guard by the willingness to help from the record-breaking tight end. The reaction when Gronkowski and the movers show up to deliver the furniture is absolutely priceless when she realizes one of the best players from her favorite NFL team is standing on her doorstep.
Not only did Gronkowski put his muscles to work by hauling in a couch and all sorts of furniture but he even helped with the kid’s homework.
A little bit of generosity and selflessness really does go a long way and a simple act of kindness from one of the NFL’s best players is something that I wish we would see more often.
Former Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back, Warrick Dunn is one of the first players I remember who made helping single mothers a priority in his life. Using the platform he had as an NFL player and the resources he acquired, Dunn’s Home for the Holidays charity helps single mothers towards owning their first home.
Transforming and changing the lives of others who need a little extra help is one of life’s greatest gifts and giving feels even better than receiving so I think Gronkowski earned himself some new fans who otherwise may not have gravitated toward “Gronk.”
He has a larger than life personality and his Gronk alter ego may have many completely surprised to see such generosity from him, but let’s let this video be proof that there is more to a person that meets the eye.
Gronkowski and the Patriots play the Colts from Gillette Stadium on Sunday in the AFC Championship Game with the winner headed to the Super Bowl. He had 82 receptions for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns this year after injuries shortened his previous two seasons.
