New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is collecting many awards after coming back from injury

After suffering a multitude of injuries in 2013, including a broken forearm and a torn ACL, Rob Gronkowski had a big 2014 for the Patriots. He has received a lot of accolades already this year for his performance on the field.

Gronkowski recently added another one, being named by the Professional Football Writers of America as the 2014 Comeback Player of the Year. Gronkowski, a few weeks ago, was also unanimously named to the All-Pro team at the tight end spot after catching 82 passes for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.

Having him back in the lineup this year has been huge for the Patriots. They have a chance Sunday at home against the Indianapolis Colts to win the AFC Championship and advance back to the Super Bowl.

If the Patriots want a chance to redeem themselves in Arizona after the 2007 loss to the New York Giants, Gronkowski will have to step up and have another big day.

Gronkowski has proven time and time again to be quarterback Tom Brady’s favorite target and the offense in general moves better when he is out on the field.

Gronkowski’s best game this season was arguably when the Patriots absolutely dismantled the Chicago Bears, 51-23, back on October 26. On that day, Gronkowski caught nine passes on nine targets for 149 yards and three touchdowns.

He was pretty consistent, stat wise, the entire year, averaging almost 75 yards a game over the 15 games that he played this year.

Gronkowski is well deserving of the PFWA Comeback Player of the Year for his ability to play at a high level after a debilitating injury such as an ACL tear.

Congrats Gronk, you earned it.
