Wisconsin radio station bans Seattle music

A Wisconsin radio station has banned music from bands that originated in Seattle in advance of the NFC Championship game between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks.

As if the NFC Championship didn’t already have more than enough on the line for both teams, now the cities and states are getting into it too. First, Bainbridge Island in Washington decided to ban cheese in the city hall for a day, and now a Wisconsin radio station is putting the shutdown on playing bands from Seattle. According to Shutdown Corner, the ban started Wednesday and will obviously proceed through the playing of the NFC title game on Sunday.

"“Beginning Wednesday morning at 12 a.m. CT, the station’s listeners will hear no Heart, no Nirvana, no Pearl Jam, no songs from any band that calls Seattle home,” read a statement from 94.5 The Lake in Milwaukee."

That means no plays from Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Heart, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, or, as the station itself put it, “any rock music that came out between “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Seven Nation Army.”

More from Green Bay Packers

According to the radio station, they’re hoping to change the karma of what has been happening to the Packers when they go to Seattle of late. There was Golden Tate’s controversial catch to seal the win two years ago and just at the beginning of this season, a virtual blowout during which Aaron Rodgers refused to throw the ball anywhere near Richard Sherman. Of course, the Packers and Seahawks have plenty of other connections as well. From current GM John Schneider to previous coach Mike Holmgren and even quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.  No love is lost between the two teams.

However, the Packers might need a little more than hometown karma to beat the Seahawks at CenturyLink. Terry Blount of ESPN succinctly gave as good a reason as any why it’s going to be hard for the Packers to leave with a win.

"One thing the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers have in common is they are almost unbeatable at home, but struggle at times on the road."

One more thing the two teams have in common, more accurately. The Packers went 8-0 at home this season, but only managed to split their games on the road, going 4-4. The Seahawks were close, at 7-1 at home in the regular season and 5-3 on the road. Both teams obviously have one of the best home field advantages and fans in the NFL. The Seahawks have deafening noise and the Packers have their own raucous fans as well as a field that gets numbingly cold the further into the season it gets.

Nevertheless, the Seahawks have too many things going for them on Sunday and the Packers have a big question mark in Rodgers’ calf and its status. They’re probably going to need all the karma they can get and then some to walk out of the Clink with a win.
