The strategy that I’m going to implement for this card of fights is that I’m going to stay away from the higher priced favorites like Connor McGregor, and instead pick the cheaper favorites so I can get more value out of my lineup. This is a hard card to pick because it’s not loaded with well known fighters, and most of the fighters have a limited sample size of fights to review.
Before we can make any logical fantasy decisions, we must look over the rules and see if there are any strategies we could implement while generating our lineups. For the lineup, you are required to pick 5 fighters with out surpassing the $50,000 limit. Here are how the points are configured during the fights.
Significant strikes .5 PTS
Advance 1 PT Takedown 2 PTS
Reversal/Sweep 2 PTS
Knockdown 3 PTS
1st Round Win 100 PTS
2nd Round Win 70 PTS
3rd Round Win 50 PTS
4th Round Win 40 PTS
5th Round Win 40 PTS
Win by desicion 25 PTS
Winning in the first round is huge when it comes to picking the right fighters. Also, it looks like picking a fighter that can land a lot of strikes could be an advantage with this set up.
Let’s take a looks at the lineup that I created for UFC Fight Night 59, McGregor vs. Siver.
Johnny Case $10,900
Johnny Case is 19-4 and he is facing Francisco Trevino who is 12-0. For both fighters, this will be their 2nd fight in the UFC. Case is a favorite to win this fight, and I’m looking to cash in on him.
Donald Cerrone $9,500
Cerrone is hot right now, and he won a fight two weeks ago against Myles Jury. Now he will face Benson Henderson (21-4) on short notice. I feel that he has a 50% chance to win this fight. Also, he is a very busy fighter and even if he does lose, he will land a lot of strikes. That will be a lot of fantasy points. I like Benson Henderson just as much, but Henderson costs more ($10,400), and with the $900 that I’m saving, I will be able to get better options in my lineup.
Lorenz Larkin $10,600
Larkin is 14-4 and is considered the favorite in this fight against John Howard who is 22-10. Larkin is a little bit of a gamble because he’s 1-3 in the UFC, but he has picked up a win against Robbie Lawler while he was in Strikeforce in 2012. I’m looking for Larkin to win this fight by a decision.
Sean Spencer $10,700
Spencer (12-3) is facing Cathal Pendred who is 15-2. This was a hard fight to pick, but I’m going to roll with the favorite in Spencer, who beat Paulo Thiago (15-8) in his last fight. This fight can go either way, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Pendred came out victorious in this bout.
Lipeng Zang $8,000
With the remaining money I had, I picked Lipeng Zang (9-7) who’s is a heavy underdog against Chris Wade (8-1). I chose Zang for my lineup because it was either him or Dennis Siver, and I feel Siver is going to lose to McGregor quickly and easily. I look for Zang to lose this fight, but I’m praying for him to land some strikes and possibly sneak out a win.
