LeSean McCoy believes that Nick Foles should remain the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles as the team prepares for the 2015 NFL season.

Presuming LeSean McCoy is back with the Eagles and playing a prominent role once again in 2015, he would like to have some say in who the next quarterback should be. Along those lines, McCoy has already made his opinion known.

After a disappointing season in which the Eagles missed the playoffs in part due to key losses and in part because they did not play in the NFC South, Chip Kelly and company might be looking to reassess their situation in a number of places. On the heels of a season in which Foles gave way to Mark Sanchez due to injury, the quarterback position could be one of Philadelphia’s top priorities.

Some people might advocate for a change in Philadelphia, but McCoy is not one of those people. “I think Nick’s a good quarterback. He’s the leader of our team,” McCoy said on NFL Network. “Things just didn’t work out for him this year due to injury, but we’ve got his back. As a team, we didn’t play well enough to win and get into the playoffs.”

The question any team has to ask themselves is this one: what’s out there that is better? It’s easy to say that the Eagles could do better than Nick Foles at quarterback, but it is a heck of a lot harder to name an attainable replacement who would be a marked improvement.

Foles was sensational in 2013, throwing for 2,891 yards, 27 touchdowns, and just two interceptions in 13 starts. His results were more up and down last season, throwing for 2,163 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in eight starts. Still, he is fluent in Chip Kelly’s system and could certainly be the starting quarterback to lead the Eagles to the playoffs with good health.

If the Eagles were going to make a change, they might seek a quarterback who can pick up bigger chunks of yards on the ground. That raises the question again, however, about who exactly that quarterback would be. Some people will suggest that the team trade the farm for the right to draft Marcus Mariota, Kelly’s former recruit at the University of Oregon.

Such a bold move is easier said than done in real life, however, so the Eagles will likely look to internal options. With Sanchez set to hit free agency and as mediocre as ever, that makes it seem awfully likely that LeSean McCoy will get his wish and have Nick Foles as the quarterback of the Eagles next season.
