Seattle Seahawks corner-back Richard Sherman says he will not miss the Super Bowl unless he loses his arm.

He’s brash, he talks trash, and he’s relentlessly in your face. He is Seattle Seahawks corner-back Richard Sherman.

Sherman, whether he created this monster intentionally or not, is one of the more controversial figures in all of sports. Either you love him or you can’t stand his face when it’s shining so bright through your television set.

A year ago he presented his most controversial postgame interview ever as he brashly spoke about Michael Crabtree with Erin Andrews following the NFC Championship Game.

After today’s NFC Championship Game, which saw his team miraculously come back from a 16-7 hole with just a couple of minutes remaining, he made a declaration.

Speaking with field-side reporter Rachel Nichols, Sherman claimed that his arm would have to “fall off” in order for him to miss the Super Bowl in two-weeks in Arizona.

Sherman of course injured the arm on a long James Starks run which saw safety and teammate Kam Chancellor hit it while it was in a vulnerable position along the sideline. From that point out he clearly favored the arm and received plenty of attention on the sidelines. It is being called a left elbow injury.

Say what you want about the man, the one thing you cannot say is that he’s soft.

Although in major pain, Sherman remained in the game and did not create a vulnerable link in the Seattle defense. He gutted it out until the very end.

This scenario now brings up the second straight season in which injuries and Sherman are related during the Super Bowl.

In last year’s 43-8 blowout win over the Denver Broncos in New Jersey, Sherman was forced to leave the game due to a banged up ankle. Now, this year’s big game might face us with status updates on the All-Pro corner-back for the next two weeks.

It will certainly be a big to-do as it looks like their opponent will be Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, as they currently hold a 24-7 lead over Andrew Luck’s Colts in the third-quarter of the AFC Title Game.

The “12th Man” is hoping Sherman’s arm does indeed not “fall off.”
