The stakes are high for the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship. That means tempers are flaring a bit.

Special teams players are intense. The speed and impact isn’t for everyone and the guys who are good at it bring an edge to the field.

And sometimes those edges collide, as they did between Seattle Seahawks backup defensive back Jeremy Lane and Green Bay Packers reserve defensive back Jarrett Bush.

It took on the familiar script of an NFL scrum … push, push, grab, grab, push, push, grab, grab.

Throw in the fact it’s the NFC Championship and the stakes are extremely high and yes, guys are going to be a little tetchy.

Teammates intervened and nothing serious came of it.

And the principles had the good sense to not throw a punch at the other player’s helmeted head—never a good move.

The Seahawks opened the second half with a three-and-out after finishing the first half with three first downs and four turnovers—not the best ratio a team could hope for.

Green Bay held a surprising 16-0 lead over the Seahawks, who hadn’t been shut out in the first half at home since a 41-7 loss to the New York Giants on Nov. 7, 2010.

It was the first time Seattle has ever been shut out in the first half of a home postseason game and just the third time the Seahawks experienced a scoreless first half at CenturyLink Field since it opened in 2002.

The others were Dec. 24, 2006, against the San Diego Chargers and Nov. 17, 2002, against the Denver Broncos.
