The Chicago Cubs are closing in on a trade with the Houston Astros for outfielder Dexter Fowler.

Dexter Fowler is coming off of a solid 2014 season with the Houston Astros. The Chicago Cubs are looking to bring in some outfield help, and are reportedly closing in on a trade with the Astros to bring Fowler on board.

This has been a very aggressive offseason for the Cubs, and Theo Epstein has made it clear that he is dedicated to improving the team and finding a way to win. Fowler may not be looked at as a major pickup, but he is a very talented outfielder with the ability to play excellent defense and swing the bat at times as well.

Last season with the Astros, Fowler recorded a .276 batting average, eight home runs and 35 RBIs. At 28 yearsold, he still fits into the rebuilding process, while also speeding that process up. Chicago needed a better defensive center fielder, and that is likely where Fowler will end up getting his playing time.

Chicago’s offseason just continues to get better for them with the addition of Fowler.

Having a complete team is something that the Cubs haven’t had in a long time, and Fowler is the perfect addition to help fill out their outfield.

The Cubs started the offseason with the huge signing of Jon Lester, who the team hopes will bring them the ace pitcher they have been in search of for so long. He joins Jason Hammel as the two newly signed pitchers looking to take the Cubs into the postseason.
