3. Improved Rush Defense

The Green Bay Packers finished the regular season ranked 23rd in the NFL defensively against the run, and that will need to be addressed this coming offseason. Last offseason, the Packers addressed their pass rushing need with the signing of Julius Peppers. They will likely have to dip into the free agent market in order to bring in more players who will help them against the run.

Clay Matthews moving to the middle of the defense was a big help for the Packers, but it did take away from their pass rush. Sam Barrington took over a lot of A.J. Hawk’s playing time, but still isn’t the answer that they are needing.

It will be interesting to see what the Packers end up doing to shore up their ground defense.

Green Bay will have both free agency and the NFL Draft to add big bodies up front or help at the linebacker position. There is plenty of talent out there, but Ted Thompson will have to be willing to spend the money in order to make upgrades.
