ESPN backtracked and corrected their story about Doug Baldwin and his rant to reporters after unnecessarily adding expletives.

Every rant sounds better with expletives, and apparently Terry Blount from ESPN agrees.

After the Seattle Seahawks incredible comeback victory against the Green Bay Packers this past Sunday in the NFC Championship game, the Seahawks were understandably emotional. Russell Wilson was in tears after the game, Michael Bennett borrowed a police officer’s bike and started riding it around the field, and then there was Doug Baldwin, who scored the game winning touchdown in overtime.

Baldwin was clearly fired up after the game, and decided to let some of the media know just exactly how he felt about them doubting the Seahawks and counting them out. Terry Blount of ESPN reported the story of Baldwin’s rant. Blount reported that Baldwin went on an expletive-filled rant to reporters. There was even a video of the rant that a reporter was able to record.

The only problem was, after watching the video, you didn’t hear one curse word.

According to Deadspin, Blount’s quotes of the rant included Baldwin saying “how many of y’all m—-f—–‘s counted us out?”, referring to the media. If you listen to the sound bite though, you don’t hear a single expletive. So where did the expletives in Blount’s report come from?

Did he misunderstand Baldwin and thought he heard expletives when there really wasn’t any? Did he not listen to the actual sound bite and just assume there would be expletives in Baldwin’s rant? Or, maybe he just added them because he was trying to help Baldwin sound more irate.

I really doubt Blount would purposely be adding the expletives, but it is very strange since it doesn’t even sound like Baldwin is saying anything close to any curse word. One individual on twitter even tried to inform Blount of his mistake, and as a thank you, Blount blocked the individual.

That’s a bit strange too. I mean, he was only trying to help.

It is worth noting that Blount’s article has Baldwin saying the expletive three times. Two of which have definitely been misquoted, but there is a third that was said at the very beginning of his rant, apparently before the video started to be recorded. Baldwin very well could have said one in the beginning, and maybe that led to Blount believing he had said it a couple more times. Unfortunately, there is no way to find out, unless you ask another reporter that was there for the rant in person.

In any event, ESPN has since released a statement saying that the article was misquoted and that it has been corrected.
