The Chicago Bears are reportedly considering both Adam Gase and Charlie Weis for their offensive coordinator opening.
During the 2014 season, the Chicago Bears were without a doubt one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL. They ended up finishing the season with a 5-11 record, and even their extremely talented offense didn’t come close to living up to expectations.

Jay Cutler had a rough season, and ended up getting benched in favor of Jimmy Clausen in Week 16. The Bears acted swiftly to fire head coach Marc Trestman and the majority of the coaching staff, and have been busy upgrading with John Fox and Vic Fangio already joining forces. Chicago will need to find an offensive coordinator, and they appear to have their eyes on two candidates in particular.
Both Adam Gase and Charlie Weis appear to be on the Bears’ radar, which are very interesting choices. Gase would make a lot of sense for the Bears after working alongside Fox in Denver, while Weis hasn’t had an NFL job since 2010 when he was with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Gase led the Broncos to the fourth-best passing offense in the NFL last season, but he did have Peyton Manning on his side to help him out. He also helped lead the Broncos to 111.6 rushing yards per game, which was good for 15th in the league.
Weis was the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator in 2010, and helped lead the Chiefs back to the playoffs after a 4-12 record the year before. He helped Kansas City finish ninth in total offense, 11th in points per game, first in rushing, but only 28th in passing offense.
Either of these guys would be a nice addition for the Bears, but Gase does have previous experience working alongside of Fox. Cutler is a very capable quarterback when he’s under the right system, and Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, and Martellus Bennett can begin preparing for a much better season.
There is absolutely no question that the Bears are going to be a playoff caliber team this season. The coaching staff that they have brought in will run much more effective systems on both sides of the football, and Chicago is going to be aggressive in bringing in more talent this offseason. They may not win a Super Bowl, they won’t be a pushover like they were this past season either.
Chicago is definitely headed in the right direction, and the fans should be getting excited with all of the new coaching hires. Either Gase or Weis would be a very nice addition for the offense.
