According to reports NBC announced plans today to stream 11 hours of Super Bowl content live for free this Sunday, February 1.
Rick Cordella, senior vice president and general manager for digital media at NBC Sports Group, said in an interview that in an effort to promote a television industry promotion called “TV Everywhere” NBC will allow users to access the NBC Sports Live Extra app and website on their tablets and computers without having to log-in and prove that they have a paid television subscription.
With viewers everywhere flocking to streaming their television programming online NBC has decided to try to move with the flow and promote their live streaming programming with the largest television viewing program all year.

“It’s just a great means to promote TV Everywhere and our products,” Cordella said. “With the Super Bowl, we will have maximum eyeballs on it.”
NBC will make the game, the half-time show featuring Katy Perry and 11 hours of pre- and post-game coverage available through the live-stream option. The commercials which are a huge draw for the Super Bowl viewers will be a bit different, but the network has plans to make sure that they will make all the commercials available to viewers.
The commercials are most fans favorite part of the Super Bowl so there could be a small amount of backlash about the differences here, but kudos to NBC for removing the log-in process and making this free, even though I can imagine they stand to profit an amount of money that would make most of our hearts stop beating for a minute or two.
This is an exciting and awesome option for all sports fans and I hope that the servers for NBC will be able to handle the traffic that this could produce. If we think that Kim Kardashian broke the internet with a picture of her butt, I can imagine that viewers at parties everywhere will have the game streaming on their tablets while possibly watching it stream on a large TV and breaking the internet with Super Bowl streaming.
As for the actual game itself, I hope that the New England Patriots give the Seattle Seahawks a better game than the Denver Broncos did last year and give us a better show. There is nothing sadder than all the buildup and hype that comes with a Super Bowl to end up seeing a blowout. Tom Brady is the only quarterback in NFL history to lead his team to six Super Bowls so he should be prepared for the task as long as someone makes sure all the balls are inflated properly.
