On January 21st, the Chicago Blackhawks took on the Pittsburgh Penguins. Fortunately the Blackhawks star players shined brightest during this Western Conference matchup.

The Chicago Blackhawks faced the Pittsburgh Penguins yesterday night in what was predicted to be a difficult matchup. After defeating the Arizona Coyotes the previous night at the United Center, the Pens’ defense put up quite the challenge for the ‘Hawks.

6:56 into the first period, David Rundblad (D) received a pass from Marian Hossa (RW), finding the back of the net with a slap shot flying past Pittsburgh’s goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.

In the second period, Marian Hossa helped score another point for the boys, putting the ‘Hawks up 2-0. Shortly after, Pittsburgh responded with two back-to-back goals made by Zach Sill (C) and Steve Downie (RW).

The third period proved uneventful. Although both teams took any opportunity they had to try to get the puck past the opposing tendy, neither were able to score, leaving the score tied 2-2 and putting the game into an OT shootout.

Up first in the shootout was Pens’ left wing David Perron, shooting the puck hard but hitting the post when it got to the crease.

Captain Jonathan Toews was first up for the ‘Hawks, putting the puck past Fleury and giving his team the lead.

In the second round of the shootout Pens’ captain Sydney Crosby was also unable to get the puck past ‘Hawks goaltender Corey Crawford, leaving the fate of the game on the next shootout attempt.

Blackhawks right wing Patrick Kane, known for his ability to dangle the puck and find the net in the most difficult of situations was up next for the ‘Hawks. Kaner was able to stickhandle the puck enough to put things away, earning Blackhawks win of 3-2 over the Penguins.
