For the first time in history, a trade occurred in round 12 of the draft. Team Foligno traded Tyler Seguin (F) for Phil Kessel (F). Although the audience, announcers, and players were shocked by this, it made for an entertaining fantasy draft.
As all of the eligible players awaited being chosen one face kept appearing, Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals. From the very beginning of the draft, Ovechkin made it clear that he wanted to be chosen last because he really needed a new car.
At one point while being interviewed in the back, he held a sign in front of his face saying “I want to be last. I need a car”. Ovechkin is known for his humor, and although he wasn’t chosen last, it was a shock to see how late in the draft he was selected by team Foligno.
It is a tradition that the last man standing in the draft wins a new car. This year, however, the fans decided which team each of the final players should be drafted to. Due to this, both Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Edmonton Oilers, and Filip Forsberg of the Nashville Predators both received new 2015 Honda Accords.
With the teams selected, the All-Star weekend is officially underway. With the skills competition being held held tomorrow evening, hockey fans are looking forward to what the next two days have in store.
