Wrigley Field is mourning the loss of Ernie Banks on Friday night
The sad, sad news came through on Friday night that the baseball world and the Chicago Cubs had lost a legend and one of the greats of the game as Ernie Banks passed away at the age of 83.
Banks played 19 years in the Major Leagues and had one of the more storied careers in the game, culminating with his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977. When it was all said and done, Banks hit 512 home runs, which is currently good for 22nd all-time.
Indeed, one of the greats has left the earth and the entire Cubs family is hurting this evening.
Right after the news of his passing was announced, the Wrigley Field marquee paid their respects to the legend that was affectionately known as, “Mr. Cub.”

Wrigley Field was the ball park where Banks made his mark for a good majority of his 19 years in the game and there may never be another like him to step onto that hallowed field.
