Team Foligno is all over Team Toews in the early going of the NHL All-Star Skills Competition Saturday night, with captain Jonathan Toews taking a loss.
Blackhawk on Blackhawk—the NHL All-Star Skills Competition is making fan bases take sides.
Team Foligno is running roughshod over Team Toews in the NHL All-Star Skills Competition at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, jumping out to a 10-1 lead after taking all but one of four rounds in the NHL Accuracy Shooting contest.
Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks won the individual title, beating Jonathan Toews—of the getting-run-off-the-ice Team Toews and the captain of the Blackhawks—in their round.
Kane hit all four targets in 13.529 seconds, well ahead of Toews, who completed the four targets in 16.307 seconds.
Kane just nosed out Nick Foligno of the host Columbus Blue Jackets, who had a time of 13.674 seconds.
Ryan Getzlaf of the Anaheim Ducks was the only Team Toews shooter to win, eliminating the four targets in 14.105 seconds to easily beat former teammate Bobby Ryan, now of the Ottawa Senators, who struggled to a 30.914 mark.
Still to come is the Skills Challenge Relay, the Hardest Shot and the Shootout, where every player and goalie will get a chance to showcase their skills in the same gimmicky way the NHL chose to eliminate ties, which were apparently too hard for the American fan to understand … after they had been in the game for almost 80 years.
But, hey, whenever you can take the most exciting play in the game and make it as enjoyable as a trip to the dentist, by all means, you have to do it, right?
