Is Bill Nye saying things about Deflategate because he’s a Seahawks fan?

Bill Nye the Science Guy said New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick made no sense in his press conference on Saturday, but does he have a Seattle bias?

Patriots coach Bill Belichick addressed the media on Saturday and gave a rambling, quasi-scientific explanation as to why 11 of the 12 balls used by his team were deflated below NFL legal limits. He essentially said that they deflated by themselves and it’s up to the league to figure that out.

The day after that, Bill Nye of Bill Nye the Science Guy fame told ABC News that nothing Belichick said regarding the deflated footballs made sense. He further implied that the only way the footballs would have gotten to that point of deflation is if someone did it manually.

Not that it really matters, but apparently Bill Nye is some kind of fan of the Seattle Mariners — the conspiracy thickens.

Nye was a resident of Seattle for some time and has been known to be a fan of Seattle sports. The Science Guy show was actually started by a team in Seattle before it was picked up by Disney and then aired on public television. In the picture tweeted by Kimes, Nye was throwing out the first pitch in a Mariners game as the team and city celebrated the 20th anniversary of the show that obviously got its start in Seattle. That happened in 2013.

Of course, Kimes was obviously just making a joke, judging by her later tweet suggesting that some Patriots fans were taking it very, very seriously.

Does Nye have an actual Seattle bias? Probably. But it’s not like anyone other than Patriots fans believed Belichick’s pseudo-science anyway, right?

Nye specifically took issue with Belichick saying that rubbing the footballs during the game is what eventually led to their illegal deflation.

Per Sports Illustrated:

"“Rubbing the football, I don’t think you can change the pressure,” Nye said, indicating one would need an air pump with a needle in order to change ball pressure. “I cannot help but say, go Seahawks,” Nye said."

So there you go. Nye wants the Seahawks to win and that may or may not have influenced his read on Belichick’s excuse for DeflateGate.

Next opinion on the deflated balls controversy please.
